Welcome again to the seasonal update page of Hawk Lake Lodge. Fingers crossed, it appears that summer has arrived! With so many days in the 50s and 60s this summer, it feels good to have some 70s and low 80s for a change. The rain, however, continues. We have had to make major repairs on the road 4 times now. The lake level is up 6"-8" since May. Plant life has that bright green look. Grass has to be cut twice weekly. A function of long days and direct sunlight, water temps in the main lake hover in the upper 60s for the most part.
The fishing for bass has been up and down, a function of the unstable weather. For the last week or so, things have been very good on the bass front. This is true despite a moderate, but prolonged, mayfly hatch. Most all fish are in a post spawn mode by this point. Many are fully recovered and on their summer ranges. Besides leeches, topwater and Senkos have been doing well. Beetle spins and Texas rigged plastics have also taken their share of fish.
The walleye are starting their post spawn bite. They are starting to show up in some numbers in their normal, structure oriented locations. Live bait (leeches) rule the presentation roost here. A good number of pike have been caught very recently in the 30" to 38" range on things from leeches, to Texas rigged worms, to swimbaits.
