Weekly Fishing Report

Season Update - Posted 5/29/2008

Thursday, May 29, 2008

Due to cold and windy conditions, the smallmouth fishing has gotten off as well to sluggish start. The fish would trickle in to the drop off areas in 10-15 feet of water only to retreat after a short stay. This resulted in spotty fishing where only a few fish were encounted at any one time. The fish caught were caught mainly on the bottom. Nonetheless, some nice fish were caught. Among these were a couple of 20 inch fish caught by Jim from North Carolina. Quite a few fish in the 17 to 19 in size range were also caught. One remarkable thing about many of the bass was their girth. Most females caught were 3-4 inches across, obviously being full of eggs.

The past few days have seen the bass fishing really heat up. The fish have started to move up shallow and have become much more aggressive. Many bass have started to chase horizontally presented lures for the first time. Some have even been caught on topwater lures.

I hope you have enjoyed this report. Be sure to catch us again in the coming days. Take care.
